Copen Drives In 7 To Lead Fairfield Varsity Falcons Past Goshen Varsity Redhawks

Copen drove in seven runs on two hits to lead Fairfield Varsity Falcons past Goshen Varsity Redhawks 26-9 on Saturday at Fairfield Jr-Sr High School. Copen doubled in the first inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the second inning, scoring two. Bats blistered as Fairfield Varsity Falcons collected 13 hits and Goshen Varsity Redhawks tallied five in the high-scoring game. Goshen Varsity Redhawks got on the board in the top of the first inning after Denning walked, and Syslo flew out, each scoring one run. Fairfield Varsity Falcons flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring 13 runs on six hits to take the lead, 13-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Copen that drove in three. Fairfield Varsity Falcons scored seven runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning. Copen singled, scoring two runs, Fraga induced Tinsley to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Park doubled, scoring one run, Ross singled, scoring two runs, and Fought singled, scoring one run. Fairfield Varsity Falcons scored six runs on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ross hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Cripe singled, scoring one run, Spencer singled, scoring one run, Wilhelm drew a walk, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs. Park earned the win for Fairfield Varsity Falcons. The right-handed pitcher allowed three hits and five runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking five. Diaz took the loss for Goshen Varsity Redhawks. The pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, surrendering 18 runs (10 earned) on eight hits, striking out two and walking 11. Barton appeared in relief for Fairfield Varsity Falcons. Fairfield Varsity Falcons amassed 13 hits in the game. Ross, Park, Spencer, Copen, and Jones each collected two hits for Fairfield Varsity Falcons. Fairfield Varsity Falcons had patience at the plate, amassing 17 walks for the game.
