Fairfield Softball loses two in challenging double header

Fairfield Varsity Falcons had trouble keeping up with SBSJ in an 11-1 loss on Saturday at 50651 Laurel Rd. SBSJ jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after an error scored two runs, Bozek tripled, scoring two runs, and Kinnucan singled, scoring one run. SBSJ added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Esquibel singled to right field, Fairfield Varsity Falcons committed an error, and Ball singled to center field, each scoring one run. Esquibel earned the win for SBSJ. The starter surrendered two hits and one run over five innings, striking out two and walking none. Park took the loss for Fairfield Varsity Falcons. The righty went four and one-third innings, giving up 11 runs (four earned) on 16 hits, striking out one and walking two. Caouette led Fairfield Varsity Falcons with two hits in two at bats. SBSJ tallied 16 hits in the game. Kozel, Stack, and Ball each collected three hits for SBSJ. Ball and Bozek were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for SBSJ. Weinberg collected two hits for SBSJ in three at bats. Stack and Weinberg each stole multiple bases for SBSJ. SBSJ stole four bases in the game. In the top of the sixth inning, Chesterton Varsity Trojans went back into the lead after Dyer was struck by a pitch, Nichols-2027 walked, and Florian-2026 walked, each scoring one run. Florian-2026 earned the win for Chesterton Varsity Trojans. The hurler surrendered eight hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking one. Jones took the loss for Fairfield Varsity Falcons. The right-handed pitcher went six innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits, striking out seven and walking eight. Fought, Jones, and Mast each collected two hits for Fairfield Varsity Falcons. Jones and Mast each drove in one run for Fairfield Varsity Falcons.
